The art window is a glass door leading into a closed room in a passage on Havneholmen – where a collection of sculptural buildings with staggered balconies, bay windows, and varying window heights forms the context.
MAKING REPLICA is a kaleidoscopic work created for the space behind the glass door as a metaphor for change – an exploration of the site’s narrative and a reflection of the external reality, but with shifts that create patterns and new connections.
Based on a preoccupation with gaps and ambiguity, the work is constructed in a labyrinthine process, across media and by bringing multiple simultaneous perspectives into interplay with mirror reflections of life outside the glass door.

The exhibition’s title is a tribute to capital logician and SABAE member Gustav Bunzel, who often posed the question “What is work?”, seemingly without ever receiving a satisfactory answer. He argued that the concept of work was both far more ambiguous and, moreover, far more impactful than, for example, the concept of God.
Like God or Godot, the concept of work today seems to exist everywhere and nowhere at once. While the automation of work processes spreads, citizens are urged to work more.
The experiments during the pandemic with Zoom- and Teams-mediated production have detached work from time and space to such an extent that it is no longer only artists who are confused: remote work reigns supreme! In return, statistics show that those (artists) who work the most are also the ones who earn the least. An increasing number of professions must cope with various and often conflicting definitions of immaterial work. Just as many forms of practice open up to the hard work that can be put into resembling someone who does not work too much (non-productive attitude), as an alternative to pseudo-work!
Work also exists in the South Harbour of Aarhus, where KH7 is located. It has long been anchored in the harbour, but new disruptions are occurring with the sweeping changes that are characterising the South Harbour area these years. In addition to the construction work, which is colossal in itself, work exists in various forms that outline a morphology of gentrification: industrial work, artistic work, and open office landscapes.
Participating artists include: Christian Bang Jensen, Anders Benmouyal, Birgit Bjerre, Bente Bundsbæk, Jette Ellgaard, Ulla Eriksen, Jette Gejl, Mette Gitz-Johansen, Kim Grønborg, Ulla Hvejsel, Åse Eg Jørgensen, Stine Kloster, Tanja Nellemann Kruse, Camilla Nørgård, Cai Ulrich von Platen, Bodil Sohn, and Iben West.
The exhibition is curated by Benjamin Asger Krog Møller.
The exhibition is supported by the Aarhus Municipality’s Cultural Development Fund.

The exhibition include the video “Green”, which, based on footage from the Umayad Mosque in Damascus, shows intensely awareness and a committed community around a place and at the same time the feeling of being cut off from real insight as the outside observer.
